How long will my Seed bank 'SB1' work?
Our Seed bank 'SB1' has a water vapour transmission rate of 0 when closed, meaning that no water vapour will enter the seed bank. The moisture and oxygen absorption technology will only be exhausted with continuous opening of the seed bank in moist conditions. Notably the slow phase (gel layer) is made to absorb moisture and oxygen at a slower rate to prevent fast consumption of the water and oxygen absorbing materials leading to a longer lifetime. The fast phase (on the inside of the lid) is intended to work rapidly at removing moisture and oxygen, and it can easily be replaced by purchasing a new lid at a low cost.
Long story short: While the seed bank is closed moisture will not enter the seed bank. When opened, our technology will absorb moisture and oxygen - how long the seed bank stays effective depends on the conditions in which the seed bank is opened, how often and how long.
The fast phase of the seed bank can easily be replaced at a low cost.
How long will my seeds stay viable in the seed bank?
The viability of your seeds depends on a few factors:
Storage environment, seed type, seed age, and genetics. Our seed banks and seed storage units provide the optimal storage environment for preserving your seeds, however they do not guarantee your seeds will last forever. Our seed bank and seed storage products will protect your seeds from abiotic factors that are known to weaken/degrade seeds, therefore preserving their viability for an extended period of time compared to regular seed storage methods.
Long story short: This depends on multiple factors, however our seed bank and seed storage units provide the optimal storage conditions to preserve the viability of your seeds when compared to regular seed storage methods.
What is meant by 'professional grade' on your seed storage and seed banking products?
Our professional grade seed storage and seed banking products are built to have the following properties:
A moisture vapour transmission rate (MVTR) of 0 - (no water vapour will enter these units when closed).
100% light blocking exterior (maintains internal darkness to prevent UV damage and photodegradation to the seeds).
